Defense Layers for Ransomware
In this session we will review the multi-prong strategy Los Angeles Unified School District deploys to protect its users and systems against ransomware. Ransomware is the fastest growing malware threat that indiscriminately targets government networks, businesses of all sizes and verticals, and home users to extort money. The common point of entry for ransomware is email but, email security controls alone are often not sufficient in preventing ransomware attacks. By combining multiple mitigating security controls into defensive layers of security, organizations can better protect their resources and data from ransomware attacks.

Provide easy access to digital resources and measure student engagement
While juggling in-person and remote instruction models, leaders struggle to address two critical problems:
• Ensuring students have access to a variety of digital learning resources.
• Measuring student engagement with those resources.
Many districts are turning to single sign-on solutions that provide students with easy and secure access to digital learning. This session will illustrate how districts can use SSO with Analytics to understand student engagement at home and in the classroom.

Beyond machines and connectivity -- building critical human networks to address the Digital Divide
Digital Equity is often seen simply as an IT hardware/connectivity issue. However, this challenge is so encompassing that it needs the focus of several departments and an inclusive, all hands on deck approach. Departments like Counseling, Teaching and Learning, Multilingual, Equity and Inclusion, Community Involvement, Data Analysis, and Human Resources can all play critical roles in developing a cohesive strategy.

Seeing Clearly: How a Physics Professor with a Sheet of Glass Changed Learning Forever
Dr. Matt Anderson knew that his physics students were at their most engaged when they connected with him face-to-face. But how to maintain that engagement writing lengthy physics formulas and proofs? Anderson's answer was mounting a massive sheet of clear glass at the front of the class, and writing on it (backwards!) while maintaining eye contact with his learners. From this simple prototype, Anderson added lights, cameras and plenty of action. The result for both distance learners and in-class students has been remarkable.
