Christopher R. Nesmith
Superintendent, Elma School District

Christopher R. Nesmith is a nationally recognized leader in career-connected learning, workforce development and educational innovation. Currently serving as superintendent of Elma School District in Washington, Christopher has dedicated over two decades to designing systems that empower students to excel in their careers, postsecondary education and life. His leadership reaches beyond his district through his role as co-lead of AASA’s, Redefining Ready initiative, where he guides a national cohort of superintendents in developing cutting-edge career pathways and redefining how districts prepare students for success in the 21st century. Christopher was honored with the 2024 District Administration magazine's Districts of Distinction Future Focused-Career Pathways Award, recognizing his innovative contributions to education and career pathways.
 
Christopher’s expertise is informed by both global research and hands-on experience. After studying apprenticeship systems in Switzerland and Germany, he applied international best practices to develop transformative youth apprenticeship programs in the United States. His doctoral studies at Washington State University focus on inter-organizational relationships to build robust partnerships between schools and employers.
 
As a keynote speaker at the ACTE Work-Based Learning (WBL) Conference, Christopher will share proven strategies for creating sustainable WBL programs, building impactful partnerships, and aligning education with workforce development to create life-changing opportunities for students and communities.
