First, AACC Live is a face-to-face event. AACC Digital will be offered fully online. Second, the size of AACC Live will be limited to approximately 500 people to allow for adequate safety precautions to limit any potential exposure to COVID-19. AACC Digital can host unlimited participants. Third, the AACC Live program consists of curated facilitated learning with each session lasting anywhere between 4 and 8 hours. Sessions offered through AACC Digital will not exceed 30 minutes in length.
What is Curated Facilitated Learning?
Curated Facilitated Learning provides a focus on high-priority trends and issues impacting community colleges delivered with lesson outlines, case studies, visual aids and resources, and hands-on activities that will allow participants to put their learning into immediate action. Each workshop will ensure that attendees are seated to socially distance and offer hands-on activities for participants related to programs/concepts outlined in the workshop focus.
How is AACC Live different from the AACC Annual Convention?
The AACC Annual Convention is the premier event for community college leaders. The meeting offers unprecedented professional development as well as the opportunity to network, share, and learn from professionals in the fields of education, business and industry, and the government sector. More than 2,500 community college practitioners, business and industry partners, federal agency representatives, foundation leaders, and other external stakeholders attend this event annually. The program consists of affinity group meetings, pre-convention workshops, and more than 200 sessions led by community college faculty, staff, administrators, and corporations.
AACC Live will not include large-scale events and has been revamped with a focus on workshop-type sessions, allowing attendees to dig deeper into topics and put practice into action. This format change will allow for effective social distancing, while maintaining the high-quality content for which we are known. Preconvention workshops will not precede the launch of AACC Live, and commission meetings will be held virtually.
If I travel for AACC Live, what can I expect? What is AACC doing to ensure the safety of all of its meeting attendees?
AACC Live participated will be required to wear masks in common areas and in all meeting spaces. Each participant will be provided with a complimentary AACC mask with filter pocket, one filter (which can be used up to 7 days), and a Sani-key which can be used to touch buttons and open doors without using one’s hand.
All meeting spaces will be fully sanitized before and after each event and between events. Hand sanitizers and antibacterial wipes will be available in each meeting room. All seating in meeting space will be set to adhere to social distancing guidelines, and speakers will be separated from attendees with plexiglass.
All meeting attendees will be required to complete a daily COVID-19 system screening questionnaire and must receive a greenlight on the daily submission to be granted entry into meeting space.
Meals will be offered within workshop meeting space. Guidelines to comply with pandemic safety indicate that it is permissible to offer box lunches or buffets as long as the hotel provides a server to serve food to each attendee. Food will be staged behind plexiglass, and participants will be divided to proceed to serving lines in a way that allows them to remain socially distant.
All general sessions will be held live without an audience and attendees may live stream the events or view them on the hotel’s television system.
It is the responsibility for any affiliates that host breakfast meetings or convenings to ensure adherence to CDC and local guidelines within their events. AACC does not control of monitor these events.
Any receptions will be hosted outdoors to allow for adequate social distancing.
The format for AACC Live and Digital is different. If I want to submit a proposal, can I submit it for consideration for both events?
Yes, you can submit a proposal for both events, but it will mostly likely not be the same content and the planning for each event will be different.
For AACC Live, the association has already established the workshop topics under five tracks for the program. If you have a concept/innovation that supports the workshop focus, then you may submit a description of the program/concept, share what instructional aids you are going to use to teach the concept to attendees, and share data that demonstrate the effectiveness of your program/concept. You must be willing to travel to deliver the content. The proposal can range anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
For AACC Digital, the same five tracks apply. Interested individuals can submit a proposal on an innovation/program/service under the track of their choice. The proposal must strictly follow the guidelines established, including the use of infographics, gamification, or other aids to keep attendees engaged. Interested presenters must upload a video of the first 5 minutes of their presentation into the portal for review, and there can be no more than 2 speakers on a session.
